Our Story
Al is a retired Naval Aviator and Linda is a teacher with 35 years of experience. They both believe in serving others, and through Pre-Paid Legal, are doing just that. In turn, Pre-Paid is providing an opportunity for them and a legacy for their children and grandchildren of a size that is limited only by their efforts. They are a Christian couple that places God and family foremost. Serving others through Pre-Paid follows, and they still have time for recreation and family events.
Al always wanted to fly. During World War Two as a child he followed all the exploits of the military pilots as they fought in both theaters of war. He read everything he could find on flying. As Al got older his talents took him into the study of music and led to a Bachelor's degree and service in church music. But soon after finishing his degree work, the old love came back and Al went into Navy flight training, got his wings and became a carrier pilot. He participated in as many musical events as possible while ashore, but most of the time he was at sea. After almost ten years, while participating in night flying training, Al had a heart attack and was subsequently retired from the Navy with a disability rating.
Back in civilian life Al continued his studies in graduate school while working his way up in the newspaper business to department head level as a circulation director. But the pressures of that job soon caused his heart disease to re-occur, and he resigned to work in insurance sales, a job that was mistakenly thought to have less pressure. A fellow salesperson showed Al Pre-Paid Legal, and he has never looked back. In Pre-Paid, he can work as much as he is able, and this fits very well with his disability. He still sings when he can, and is the director for his church choir.
Linda was born and grew up in Queen's Village, NY, and went to Queen's College where she received her bachelor's and Master's degrees in education. She soon moved to Pensacola. FL and completed her teaching career. During this time she worked in the drop-out prevention program and was awarded teacher of the year twice. On retirement she began to work with Al in his Pre-Paid Legal business. Linda sings in the local civic chorale as well as her church choir. She has also taught the confirmation class in her church, and is a member of the worship committee. Linda serves on the board of the wildlife rehabilitation center, and is a dedicated environmentalist.
Linda and Al have found that the service aspect of Pre-Paid along with the ongoing residual income keeps them reaching out to do more and more with their business.
Pre-Paid Legal Services were founded in 1972 by Harland Stonecipher, who had a terrible accident, and was later sued by the party that caused the accident. He had life, automobile, and medical insurance, but nothing to help him with the heavy cost of proving his innocence. He then formed a company that develops and markets legal service plans across North America. These plans are developed for the individual, family, small business, home based business or as an employer provided benefit. There are other specialized plans available that cater to the needs of teachers, law enforcement, self employed, commercially licensed drivers, and others. An identity theft shield was added as an increased benefit.
Pre-Paid Legal also provides a lucrative compensation plan for their sales force along with increases for advancement. The company has had 40 consecutive quarters of growth, publicly traded on the NYSE (symbol PPD), is debt free and maintains substantial cash reserves.
